東京芸術大学音楽学部声楽科卒業。同大学院修了。英国王立音楽院大学院演奏家養成コースを名誉ディプロマを得て修了。
1994年ダイアナ妃後援による『メサイア』公演のソリストとしてロンドン･ロイヤル・フェスティバルホールにデビュー、オペラ、オラトリオ、古楽のソリストとして国内外で活躍するほか、現代音楽の分野でも数々の世界初演、日本初演を手がけ、特に英語歌唱のエキスパートとして貴重な存在となっている。毎年開催しているリサイタルシリーズ『英国歌曲展』のほか、CD『ベンジャミン・ブリテン歌曲集』(FMC5040)『ベンジャミン・ブリテン歌曲集Ⅱ』(FMC5045『レコード芸術』特選盤）、『日本歌曲第1集』(FMC-5049-5050 レコード芸術準特選盤)、『ヴォーン・ウィリアムズ歌曲集～牧場にそって』(ALCD-7125 朝日新聞・毎日新聞・音楽現代推薦盤、レコード芸術特選盤)、ヘンデル『メサイア』(シュナイト指揮/WWCC7403～4)、『日本歌曲第4集』(FMC-5055,5056)、『Home, Sweet Home ～イギリス抒情歌曲集』(ALCD-7166 レコード芸術準特選盤) なども高い評価を受けている。
イギリス20世紀歌曲とヘンデル作品の歌唱に対し、グレートエルム声楽賞（英）受賞。第32回フランシスコ・ヴィーニアス国際声楽コンクール第3位並びに最優秀オラトリオ・リート歌手特別賞（西）受賞。ニューヨーク国際オラトリオ・ソリスト・コンクール入賞ほか。現在、玉川大学芸術学部、フェリス女学院大学大学院、東京大学教養学部非常勤講師。ヘンデル・フェスティバル･ジャパン実行委員。

 

Hirohisa Tsuji (tenor) studied at the National Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music, where he gained BA and MA in singing. He also studied Lieder in Vienna. In 1992 he was awarded a scholarship by Rohm Music Foundation to study at the Royal Academy of Music, with Kenneth Bowen, Iain Ledingham, Robert Spencer and Paul Esswood. He also studied with Yvonne Minton, Graziella Sciutti and Geoffrey Parsons.

 

While he was in London, he made numerous concert appearances including Acis in Acis and Galatea, Xerxes in Xerxes, Jupiter in Handel’s Semele, Count Almaviva in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville. He also sang tenor solo in Mozart Requiem, Bach Cantatas and Evangelist in Christmas Oratorio, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, and Messiah throughout UK, including at the Royal Festival Hall with patronage of Diana, Princess of Wales in 1994 and 1995, praised by Opera Magazine, Evening Standard among many others.

 

He has also gave many recitals to introduce British Songs in Japan. His series of recitals entitled “An Evening with British Songs” is highly acclaimed and many of his CD recording including British songs and oratorios such as “Messiah” “Acis and Galatea” among others have been graded as highly recommended. Hirohisa has given many world premieres including Sir Harrison Birtwistle’s The Sadness of Komachi for tenor and prepared piano, which was written for him.

 

His performances have been broadcasted on BBC Radio 3, NHK-FM, NHK TV and many other local media. Hirohisa won the Great Elm Vocal Award (UK), the third prize and the best Oratorio-Lied Singer Prize in the 32^nd Francesco Vinas International Singing Competition in Barcelona. In 1997 he was a finalist in the 21^st New York Oratorio Competition. Hirohisa is now teaching at National Tokyo University, Tamagawa University and Ferris University in Japan and keeping his busy career as an oratorio soloist, recitalist, choir conductor as well as a co-founder and choir director of Handel Festival Japan.
